Week 8 DevLog_KU
The block-outs for the sections I'm tasked with completing--the "Southern" Woods and its embedded Pathway--began this week, Week 8. Using everything I've watched and re-learned from last week's video tutorials, tips, and tricks, I began to carve out and prototype the environment with Unreal Engine 5's box brushes. I utilized Andrew Foradas' map design as a guide for the layout, ensuring to keep within my designated space without cutting into the other two sections it is bordered by.
Due to unforeseen circumstances surrounding part of the game's development via server troubles, this week's required work commenced in an "offline" state. Half of the time was dedicated to creating this more "local" repository for the team's files, in order for me to access them without our developmental tool (i.e. designated VPN service) being active. The rest of the time was solely focused on completing the block-out, in accordance to the aforementioned map design. The "Southern" Woods, as well as its Pathway, beneath my jurisdiction has been completely blocked out, despite what would've been an otherwise crippling obstacle. Using this temporary "framework" and working in an isolated (yet temporary) format, it took about 7 hours to fully complete the block-out of my designated regions of the map: between both structuring the prototype environment (3.5hrs), and setting up the files to be accessed locally (3.5hrs).
